A Swedish Overture

Happy New Year! A resolution was to start a blog and here it is! I'll start from Sweden & so it'll mainly be food photos :-)  But 1st, flew in from Poland on a budget airline so there was no food, just amazing views like this:

Not a great photo but shows Sweden's snowy, icy, forested landscape.

Next is first Swedish dinner:

Dinner was rye bread w/ avocado mousse, smoked salmon & caviar; deer w/ roasted vegetables; blueberry pie w/ ice-cream.

Xmas Eve started off with a Xmas breakfast: Xmas porridge w/ cinnamon & sugar and Xmas bread (w/ f fruit). You can see the strange peanut-butter looking & tasting Swedish cheese. And you can see the carton of strange Swedish sour yoghurt/milk thing:

Xmas afternoon was glogg wine (w/ raisons & almons of course) w/ cookies & cake:

Starter was smoked salmon w/ avocado mousse, caviar & a green thing:

I must've been a bit drunk not to have taken pictures of the main but it was turkey fillet stuffed w/ raisons, lime, etc.

Here is dessert, a blurry pic of fig w/ chocolate:

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

Let's jump to NYE dinner preparations:

Stocked fridge!

Meat turds!

Ice-cream!

Entree: steak tartare (raw beef with a raw quail egg cracked over it). The meat was mixed with beetroot, onions, capers, whiskey mustard, parsley, black pepper, sardelles and these were also put on the side. Drink: Stout.

Main: baked haddock fish (that a friend from the other side of Sweden brought with her) w/ white wine sauce & caviar, almond potatoes w/ chives & swedish cheese. Drink: Chablis.

Dessert: semi-freddo (like an ice-cream, made w/ tea & cinnamon) with caramel sauce & pears. Drink: Italian dessert wine.

It was a great dinner w/ matching beer, wine & champagne! Then it was party time!

I'm staying in Sodertalje, 30kms south of Stockholm: "little baghdad" for taking in more Iraqi refugees than the US & Canada combined, Scania truck headquarters & Bjorn Borg's hometown. Here is the house he grew up in:

  1. Hey this Helen's husband. We just came back to France after a connection in Helsinki where we saw the frozen sea. We plan a trip to Denmark/Sweden around enf of march 2011 but will stay in France until this day. If ever some low cost companies bring you to Paris area, feel free to come :-) I'll come back to check more pictures.
